Pulse Bearish Reversal

A momentum-exhaustion strategy. It identifies extreme overbought levels (Pulse > +95) and triggers a short entry when price breaks its reference level.

Strategy Overview

How the setup works

Concept / Step 1

Overbought Exhaustion

Triggered when the Pulse indicator crosses below its smoothed EMA while both are above +95.

Reference Level / Step 2

3-Bar Breakdown

The price at the exact moment of the crossover is set as the reference level.

Confirmation & Entry

Sustained Breakdown

Requires price to break below the reference level and sustain below it for 3 consecutive bars.

Logic Rationale

Short-Side Squeeze

Extreme positive Pulse readings reflect intense long-side buildup. A sustained breakdown signals exhaustion and initiates a sharp bearish reversal.

Illustrative P&L Simulation — Options & Futures

Simulation assumptions

Models the financial outcome of the 146 trailing-stop trades using standard lot sizing (4 lots = 120 units).

Scenario A
Buy Option (Long Call/Put)
60,000 margin assumed. Fixed 0.5 delta approximation. Standard sizing: 4 lots (120 units).
Scenario B
Sell Option (Short Put/Call)
6,00,000 margin assumed. Fixed 0.5 delta approximation. Standard sizing: 4 lots (120 units).
Scenario C
Futures
3,40,000 margin assumed. 1.0 delta. Standard sizing: 4 lots (120 units).
⚠ Simplified illustration only

The option P&L scenarios use a fixed 0.5 delta assumption. Real options have dynamically changing delta, gamma, theta (time decay), and vega (IV changes) which are completely excluded here. Futures margin is dynamic and volatility-based; the ?3,40,000 figure is an approximate illustration, not a real-time quote. Always verify live margin requirements before trading.

Recommended Exit Method

Active trailing stop

An active trailing stop locks in profits while waiting for massive late-day drops.

Trailing logic

Trigger after +80 pts profit, trailing 60 pts behind the lowest peak.

Result

59.6%
WIN RATE
Median captured profit: +23.6 pts
(mean +23.6 pts)

Trade-off

It occasionally stops out prematurely on normal intraday bounces before massive afternoon crashes.

Why it works

Because downside moves are sharp and violent, we must allow the trade to breathe without risking the full 100pt stop after reaching profitability.

Illustrative P&L Simulation

Stop-loss optimization

Runaway bull markets can relentlessly grind higher. A strict initial stop is mandatory to cap tail risk.

Too tight

Tight stops choke the strategy, triggering exits on normal market chop before the reversal occurs.

Optimal level: -100 pts

Cuts catastrophic tail risk when bulls refuse to yield, minimizing false stop-outs.

Impact of the initial stop

59.6%
WIN RATE — Stabilizes the win rate by preventing single massive losses from destroying expectancy.
Maintained
TOTAL P&L — Ensures profitability by cutting losers at -100 pts while winners run 120+ pts average.
Risk Defined
MAX DRAWDOWN — Eliminates uncapped upside risk during failed setups.

Equity curve — trailing-stop basis

Cumulative points captured across all 146 trades, sequential by trade number (fixed 0.5-delta illustrative basis).

Trade 1 Trade 146 — final cumulative result +3,439.0 pts

Consistent with the 59.6% win rate and +23.6 pt mean trailing-stop result reported above.

All three scenarios share the exact same underlying sequence of trades and identical win rates and risk-adjusted ratios. Scenario A maximizes return on margin but with severe drawdown-to-margin exposure; Scenario B requires the largest capital base with the lowest relative drawdown risk; Scenario C offers a middle ground in margin efficiency while avoiding options-specific time decay and volatility risk.

Case Studies

A) Clean Win (Maximum Trend Capture)

The index exhausted itself early, triggered the entry, and immediately rolled over. The trailing stop gracefully followed the descent.

B) Stop-Out (Failed Setup)

The setup triggered but bullish momentum quickly caught up, invalidating the bearish divergence. The strict -100 point stop-loss executed instantly.

Risk & limitations

1

Regime Dependency

During runaway bull markets, short-selling setups often experience consecutive stop-outs as the market grinds higher without correcting.

2

Choppy Market Erosion

During prolonged sideways or choppy regimes, the strategy may suffer strings of -100pt stop-outs as the required sustained momentum is absent.

3

Maximum adverse excursion

The strict -100pt stop loss must never be removed. Without it, runaway bull trends will cause massive drawdowns.

4

Current Status: Research & Validation

This strategy has not yet been formally promoted to confirmed/live status internally. It has cleared sample-size and historical-accuracy gates; regime stability under out-of-sample walk-forward testing is currently under active review.
